Seminar Question

Kieran explains the process of production of both large and small aircraft by Boeing as a procession of 'modules' rather than simply parts. These modules are often completed in several different locations by several different companies. The company is simply chosen based upon which submitted the lowest cost bid to adequately complete the project. With multiple parties working on an ultimately unified project, there are bound to be problems and oversights, as has been denoted by the recent problems with Boeing and Airbus Aircraft in both the American Airlines and Southwest Airlines fleets (One of which was relatively new with only a few months worth of flying time).

How does this problem relate to architecture and the production of large and small scale buildings through both the design process as well as the building process, whether it be pre-fabricated in modules as the airplane or built primarily on site as in the former "craft" objects described in chapter one. Do you believe that the commodity of pre-fabrication is greater than the potential failures of the system?
