Internal Logic

Rest stop

The idea for my rest stop was to use the concept of “flat pack” design to create an easy installation process while additionally fulfilling functional duties. Installation of the rest top consisted of bracing the main “pre-fabricated” circular members to the ground with the use of the bench members that plugged into holes placed in the ground.

The circular frame of the rest stop guided views of the inhabitants while also blocking unwanted sun and wind.

“Packaged House System”

The “Packaged House System” developed by Konrad Wachsmann and Walter Gropius followed the primary driver of easy installation. “The intention was to develop the most complete pre-fabricated construction system possible, which could be simply assembled on site by untrained workers…”

Wachsmann based this project off of his previous work with Christoph & Unmack, where he focused on load bearing panel construction.

The system was a modular timber construction system made for small buildings, composed of hooks and cotters for means of construction.

This model later became more developed with fewer elements and enhanced connection techniques in 1943-44, where it became known as the “General Panel System” and was sold as units.
